I like to think of the Burden Brothers as a Dallas supergroup. With members from Doosu, The Toadies, and Reverend Horton Heat, the band has put out two great albums to date. The status of the band is listed as being on hiatus as of 2008 as the members pursue other interests. I realize that the song probably has nothing to do with strippers, but you have to admit that this is the ultimate stripper song.

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for creative but solid drumming, and that is one of the many things that Chomsky does well. I don’t think this Denton power-pop band is together anymore, but it looks like all of the players have moved on to many larger projects. I’d love a chance to hear these guys play again.

I’m not sure if Bobgoblin is still around, but they always had a great live show and did an excellent job of branding the band. They always played in the numbered, black jumpsuits which they referred to as the black market party. The band briefly changed their name to The Adventures of Jet after a split from their label, but still played the same set list with new songs as well. Though I believe they changed the name back after about a year.

The album “Sea Change” marked a distinct departure from Beck’s previous quirky upbeat style with a beautifully somber song list. “Guess I’m Doing Fine” is just one of the regretful songs that make the album one of his best to date.

This sketch is dedicated to the memory of Layne Staley the lead singer of Alice In Chains who lost his life to his long-time addiction to heroin and crack in 2002. Alice in Chains is the band that to me encompasses the true meaning of the label “grunge”, though my favorite album by the band is the acoustic EP Sap. The band just released a new album, and I’m anxious to hear how it sounds.

Okay, so today’s entry isn’t really a band, but they did release a Christmas Album. I heard this song featuring Neko Case of The New Pornographers, and I had to get the album. I mean one of the most beautiful voices in pop music today singing “Santa Left a Booger in My Stocking” with Meatwad from Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force, what’s not to like. I thought it was appropriate to launch this song tonight. I hope everyone gets what they want this year even if it’s a booger.

Fronted by rapper Gift of Gab and backed by DJ Chief Xcel, Blackalicious is another band that I first experienced off of a SxSW sampler a few years ago. The next time I’m at the record store, I need to pick up one of their 3 albums. You should too.

I discovered this band on a SxSW music sampler a few years back, and I absolutely love this song. I need to get an album, since most of the material I’ve heard is really solid pop.
